Course Overview

This STCW 2010 course provides both a practical and theoretical mixture of training which includes:

• The theory of the nature of Fire
• Extinguishing different types of fire
• Carrying out the initial actions on discovering a fire
• Correctly using portable and mobile fire extinguishers
• The use of hoses, nozzles and hose equipment
• Testing and using BA equipment

The course is also included in our STCW Basic Safety Training Week

All seafarers.
Career Applications – Basic requirement for Merchant Navy, some Oil & Gas installations, and the superyacht industry.

Aims & Objectives

The aim of the course is to give all delegates the basic knowledge and skills required to prevent fires and how to extinguish them. Our purpose-built multi-storey steel fire unit, fitted with simulated shipboard compartments, is used for live fire training.

Physical and Stressful Demands

Training and/or assessment activities contained within this Standard may include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such activities must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully.

NOTE: Delegates undergoing fire fighting training will be required to complete and sign a confidential medical declaration to make us aware of any health problems, disabilities or injuries that we may need to take into account whilst attending this physically demanding course. It is therefore essential that delegates feel healthy and are physically fit to undertake such training.

Prerequisites
Valid in-date medical or fitness to work certificate (Valid within 12 months)
Course Outline

Acquire competence in the theory and practice of the following:

  • Combustion process
  • Fire behavior
  • Extinguishment for each class of fire
  • Portable extinguishers
  • Personal protective clothing
  • Operation of firefighting equipment
  • Detection and suppression systems
  • Fire suppression strategies and tactics
  • Benefits of safety inspections and maintenance training
Certification

On successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF) certificate approved by the Liberian Registry, the world’s largest quality registry. Certificate validity is five (5) years.
