Course Overview

PSA training must be undertaken by all seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board any ship which is required to comply with the ISPS Code. The course provides both a practical and theoretical mixture of training including:

• The ISPS Code
• Recognising security threats
• Security roles and responsibilities
• Company and ship security requirements
• Security threat levels
• Security measures and procedures

Although it does not form a mandatory part of the training programme, this course is provided free of charge in our STCW Basic Safety Training Week

Who should attend

All seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on ships or any other vessel to which the ISPS code applies who require a Proficiency in Security Awareness certificate but are not attending the Basic Safety Training Week, will need to attend this four-hour stand-alone course.

Aims & Objectives

The aim of this half-day course is to provide necessary knowledge, understanding and proficiency to personnel intending to work on ships who will not have any designated security duties.

Physical and Stressful Demands

Training and/or assessment activities contained within this Standard may include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such activities must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully.

Valid in-date medical or fitness to work certificate (Valid within 12 months)

  • Recognize security threats
  • Understand the need for and methods of maintaining security awareness and vigilance
  • Operational requirements of the ISPS Code
  • Communication Security roles & responsibilities
  • Anti-Piracy Overview
  • Response to a security incident, risk and/or threat
  • Review and final assessment
Certification

On successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Proficiency in Security Awareness certificate approved by the Liberian Registry, the world’s largest quality registry. Certificate validity is five (5) years.
