H2S releases are a common hazard associated with drilling and prodution activities so knowledge and skills in hydrogen sulfide hazards and effects are essential for any personnel working offshore or onshore in the oil and gas industry.

All personnel who work offshore or on sites where the release of H2S remains a possibility.

The course aims to provide knowledge and skills for all personnel who may enter into, or may have to deal with H2S releases, including responses for personal safety and the safety of the worksite.
Physical and Stressful Demands
Training and/or assessment activities contained within this Standard may include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such activities must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully.
Prerequisites
Valid in-date offshore medical or fitness to work certificate (Valid within 12 months)

- Biological effects of H2S
- H2S Gas Monitoring Systems and Alarm Systems
- Contingency Plans – Muster/Safe Haven locations
- Basic Expired Air Resuscitation (EAR)/Life Support
- Breathing Apparatus/escape breathers familiarisation
- Portable Gas Monitors
- Dealing with H2S fires
- SCBA and ringmain air provision and use
- Practical exercises and scenarios
Certification
TPTI certificate. Validity 3 years.
