Course Overview

The programme provides a combination of classroom theory sessions and practical boat operations on open water. Upon completion of the course, delegates should be able to demonstrate competence to:

• Take charge of a fast rescue boat during and after launch
• Right a capsized fast rescue boat
• Use communication and signalling equipment between the fast rescue boat, a helicopter and a ship
• Carry out search patterns
• Use the emergency equipment carried
• Recover a casualty from the water and transfer to a rescue helicopter, or to a ship or place of safety

Aims & Objectives

The course aims to provide knowledge and skills necessary to safely and competently launch, maneuver and recover an FRC.

Physical and Stressful Demands

Training and/or assessment activities contained within this Standard may include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such activities must be physically and mentally capable of participating fully.

Prerequisites

Valid in-date STCW10 Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (PSCRB) Certificate.
Valid in-date medical or fitness to work certificate (Valid within 12 months).

Acquire competence in the theory and practice of the following:

  • Craft description and checks
  • Crew responsibilities
  • Launch and recovery
  • Helicopter recovery
  • General handling skills
  • Crew dress and equipment
  • Capsize procedures
  • Man overboard procedures
  • Search patterns
  • Casualty handling

Certification

On successful completion of the course, participants will receive an STCW10 PFRB certificate approved by the Liberian Registry, the world’s largest quality registry. Certificate validity is five (5) years.
